thursday's mayors challenge call to focus on criminal justice
Mayors, city staff, stakeholders, and community leaders are invited to join HUD Secretary Julian Castro, USICH Executive Director Matthew Doherty and federal partners to discuss the intersection of the homelessness and criminal justice systems.

FINAL CALL FOR CONFERENCE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS
Friday, May 27 is the last day to submit an application for the 2016 National Conference on Ending Homelessness Scholarship Program.

Recipients will receive free conference registration, round-trip transportation and hotel accommodations. Individuals currently experiencing or who have experienced homelessness in the past are encouraged to apply. This year's conference will be held July 26-28 in Washington, DC.

The Alliance Launches the Eric Jungels Consumer Advisory Board
The new Eric Jungels Consumer Advisory Board (CAB) will consist of members who have experienced or are currently experiencing homelessness. The CAB will inform the work of the organization and serve in an advocacy capacity, both at the federal level and in their local communities.

The CAB is named in honor of Eric Jungels, a veteran and member of the North Dakota National Guard who advocates for ending homelessness.

Appropriations Updates
On Tuesday, May 24 the House Appropriations Committee approved by voice vote a $58.2 billion measure to fund the U.S. Department of Transportation, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and related agencies (THUD) in fiscal year (FY) 2017. The bill included $2.487 billion for McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Grants, a $237 million increase over FY 2016 funding, but $177 million below the Administration’s proposed FY 2017 level. Read the press release and full bill.
 
On Thursday, May 19 the Senate passed the FY 2017 THUD spending bill. The bill included $2.33 billion for McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Grants, an $80 million increase over FY 2016 funding, but $330 million below the Administration’s proposed FY 2017 level. Read the press release and bill summary.
